Migration Agents looking to North Queensland

Townsville and Burdekin Shire was the focus of an inbound delegation of migration agents who help their clients identify investment opportunities.

The delegation of 22 agents spent a day in Brisbane, three days in Townsville and a one day visit to the town of Ayr. The program showcased north Queensland’s strengths in food and agribusiness, pharmaceutical industries, renewable energy, education & training, manufacturing, aviation, tourism, and property development.

The agents also toured the Port of Townsville, the Burdekin Shire and some local tourist attractions such as Reef HQ and the Billabong Sanctuary. They were also introduced to various local North Queensland businesses and were provided briefings from all levels of government and key stakeholders.

The mission, organised by BSMQ and TIQ’s China offices and regional Townsville office, aligns with the focus of the Queensland Government’s Trade and Investment Strategy on attracting investment to regional Queensland along with BSMQ’s regional engagement plan. There was strong support from the Townsville City Council and Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill, the Burdekin Mayor Lyn McLaughlin and Charters Towers Mayor, Liz Schmidt. There was also coverage of the north Queensland leg from the Townsville Bulletin.
